Medichem has been awarded the Second COASHIQ Sustainability Award for its project “Waste, Water and Climate Change Management Programs,” during the 122nd COASHIQ Assembly and Technical Conference, held on May 19–20, 2026, in Valencia.
The awards, organized annually by COASHIQ (Spanish Association for Safety, Hygiene and Environment in the Chemical Industry), highlight the commitment and excellence of companies in areas such as occupational risk prevention, health protection, continuous improvement in industrial safety, and the promotion of sustainable and responsible initiatives.
This year’s ceremony took place in Valencia, reflecting the region’s strong industrial ecosystem and its relevance across sectors such as chemicals, food, and ceramics.
Strengthening environmental strategy through structured action
The jury highlighted Medichem’s project for its consistent and structured approach to strengthening the company’s environmental strategy, as well as for the development of dedicated programs focused on waste, water, and climate change.
Particular emphasis was placed on the initiative’s integrated methodology, built on a prior diagnostic phase that identifies opportunities for improvement and sets clear priorities. This approach enables continuous and sustained environmental progress over time, helping to consolidate a robust foundation for long-term impact.
As a B Corp-certified company, Medichem integrates sustainability into its business model, aligning environmental, social, and governance commitments with operational performance and decision-making.
Montserrat Sala, Environmental Manager at Medichem, commented:
“This award reflects the collective effort behind our environmental strategy. By combining rigorous analysis with concrete action plans, we are able to drive measurable improvements and strengthen our long-term impact. It reinforces our commitment to building a more sustainable and responsible industry.”
Significant progress in workplace safety
In addition to the sustainability award, Medichem received a COASHIQ diploma for achieving a reduction of more than 60% in workplace accident rates in recent years.
This milestone highlights the company’s strong focus on safety, prevention, and employee well-being, supported by continuous training, robust procedures, and cross-functional collaboration.
Abel Corredera, Health & Safety Manager at Medichem, added:
“Reducing accident rates by 60% is the result of sustained effort across all levels of the organization. It reflects a deeply embedded safety culture, where prevention, awareness, and accountability are part of everyday operations.”
Advancing a responsible industrial model
The COASHIQ awards underscore the progress of companies across the chemical and related industries, where safety, sustainability, and operational excellence are increasingly interconnected.
The 122nd Assembly and Technical Conference brought together industry experts to address key challenges such as safety innovation, training, communication, and sustainability, reinforcing the importance of an integrated approach that combines environmental management, workplace safety, and social responsibility.
These distinctions reinforce Medichem’s commitment to continuous improvement, responsible growth, and the creation of safe and sustainable workplaces. They also strengthen the company’s position as a forward-looking organization, committed to contributing positively to both industry and society.
